bio:
Born in Perth, Western Australia in 1976, Reuben Kaan (aka BUCKWILDE) was endowed with various musical abilities.
Given a drum kit at the age of two by his father, (who by the way is also musically well endowed) Reuben began to display sound rythmic paradiddles and snare/hihat coordinations.
By the age of five, Reuben had received his first acoustic guitar which he used to tune by ear to a major chord and play accross the fretboard with one finger knocking off tunes such as "Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag".
Coming from a long line of musicians, Reuben developed his skills without tuition. At the age of twelve he had his first electric guitar and amp and a burning passion to be able to play like Joe Satriani. His father told him, "Joe is good but listen to Jimi Hendrix." So he did, over and over until he was not just listening to Jimi, he was hearing him.
He would spend all night on school nights, just pluggin away at his Strat copy leaving only a couple of hours of sleep. Enough to get through a school day.
Starting a school band and playing various Hendrix covers, he even dressed the part for concerts, going to the extent of placing black tissue up his nostrils to widen his nose.
At fifteen, Reuben aquired a passion for playing the bass guitar after being asked in an emergency to play for a school graduation. He just had to have one. His father, being an extremely capable bassist introduced him to Graham Central Station, Stanley Clarke, Earth wind and Fire, Commodores and other well known Funk groups conjuring up an uncontrollable urge to slap the bass. Which he did most days until his fingers bled.
He managed to master this technique in his own way and played with various artists such as Marcus Roberts from Wormhole, Pieter Kaan from Red Eye / Acid Road and many more. He even joined a acapella group to work on harmonic vocal skills called "2Good 2B True". (crap name but good times)
Also at the age of fifteen, Reuben met up Chris Giles, a local hip hop artist who was intent on bringing more musicality to the forfront of hip hop in Australia. They worked on many different projects such as "Skippy 2 Smooth", "Down and Under" and featured many other artists whilst recording in many different studios.
At the age of eighteen, Reuben temporarily moved with the Giles brothers to Melbourne to do recording. During that time he was on unemployment benefit and would upon payment, pay his share of the rent and purchase 26 packets of noodles to ensure he had food for the next two weeks and proceed to blow the rest on clothes, clubbing, drinking and gold chains. It was at this time that he aquired the name, "BUCKWILDE". A name given to hime by the Giles brothers due to his unquenchable habit for blowin cash. Needless to say, the name has stuck to this day.
He now remains in Perth, making music with Chris Giles in a trip called "Mason Road" which can be heard on Whotune radio.
When asked, Bucky (as he is known to his friends) says his passion for music comes from God, his loving musical family and his friends who dig what he does.
"Get involved in Whotune, its a beautiful thang. Oh and Just spend it". Buckwilde
